Last week when I was at one of my favorite stores
doing some grocery shopping,
my eyes fell upon the canned biscuits
in the refrigerated section.
Immediately,
I remembered a treat that I used to make
on Saturday mornings
that I had forgotten about.
So I picked up a can and smiled,
knowing I'd have some happy kids
once the weekend arrived.
I found this recipe several years ago
in Real Simple magazine.
You need a whopping 3 ingredients:
a can of biscuits,
canola oil
&
cinnamon sugar.
Real simple, indeed!
Here's the scoop:
Open your can of biscuits and separate each of them
on a cutting board.
Using a small glass or biscuit cutter,
stamp a hole in the middle of the biscuits.
(You will now have 8 doughnuts and
8 doughnut holes.)
Heat about 1/2 cup of canola oil in your pan over medium low heat.
{You can test how hot the oil is by placing the edge of a
doughnut in the oil. The edge will bubble when it is hot enough.}
When the oil is ready, place 4 doughnuts
and 4 holes in the oil and cook until golden,
about a minute per side.
When done, remove to a paper towel-covered wire rack
or plate to drain.
Add about 1/4 cup more oil and cook the remaining
doughnuts and holes.
Sprinkle your cinnamon sugar on a plate or in a small bowl.
{You can make your own cinnamon sugar by mixing
1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 t cinnamon.
If you want to be really fancy,
you can put your cinnamon sugar in a jelly jar
and poke holes in the lid like we did. :) }
Toss your warm doughnuts and holes in the cinnamon sugar
until they are well coated.
That cinnamon sugar coating on the crispy outside…
That soft, flaky, buttery inside…
They are to. die. for.
I suggest you make them as soon as possible.
Everyone in your house will be very happy
and you will be their breakfast hero!
*I posted this picture on Instagram last Saturday
and had some requests for the recipe.
Here you are!
Do you Instagram?
{If you do, you can find me at jackiekirsche}.
Happy weekend, lovelies!

i did not need to know about this recipe. :) but now i do. uh oh!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, those donuts look crazy good! Not that I needed another sugary, caloric recipe to add to my repertoire, but who can say no to donuts? :)

we used to make these when I was a child. We'd put them in a brown paper bag with powdered sugar and shake to coat them. So good! Thanks for bringing back a favorite memory!
