About

I’m Jackie Kirsche. I’m 40(ish).
I grew up in beautiful Chattanooga, TN, but have called Athens, GA home
for over 20 years. It is one cool town.
I’m married to my husband Kevin, 3 years my junior (to the day!).
He is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, so patient and optimistic. His calm balances my fire, his mellowness my intensity.
However different in personality we may be, though,
we have much in common: we are both creative, love the Lord,
good design, and digging in the dirt.
We make a good pair.
We have 3 awesome children.
Berkley (17), Sierra (14) and Hadley (12).
It is amazing to watch the people that they are becoming,
to see their talents and interests develop,
and to dream of where these things will take them in life.

We have Rosie, our sweet white dog and 3 chickens.
We live in an awesome subdivision which has provided an idyllic childhood for our kids in their younger years, though we are now hoping to move to an in town location more connected with the community at large.

Here are a few random things about me...

1. I'm a "tell it like it is" kind of person, and
appreciate that trait in other people.
I want the truth, even if the truth hurts.

 2. I love to paint, even though I often allow
the "ordinary" things of life to take priority.
I'm working on that.

3. I can't stand it when businesses or advertisements
are misspelled or grammatically incorrect
(Kountry Korner, Qwik Stop, Toys-R-Us).
I will avoid giving them my business, if at all possible.
Except for Chick-Fil-A---
for some reason, I can overlook it with them,
even though they simultaneously break both rules
(and consistently, I might add).
It must be the milkshakes.

4. We are trying to make travel a priority with our family.
We’d love to visit every continent someday.

5. I LOVE Georgia football.
This is coming from the same girl who didn't attend
one single game when she was in college.
It began as a bonding experience with my son.
Now he tells me I embarrass him with my loud, overzealous behavior.
 I don't really care. :)
If you are ever watching a game with me,
consider yourself forewarned.

6. Whenever I am in someone else's house,
 I visually rearrange the furniture.
 I can't help it.
I might even move a few small things (accessories, not furniture)
 around if no one's looking.

7. I'm trying to make exercise a part of my daily life
and dessert a once (or twice) a week treat,
 not the other way around.

8. If I was ever to get another degree, it would be in architecture.
I'd love to design my own house some day.

9. I have an aversion to talking on the phone.
Making appointments (doctors, haircuts, etc.) are best done in person
lest I go way too long in between visits.
I have let more than one gift certificate expire due to my strange avoidance. Knowing this makes no sense doesn’t help.
In fact, the problem has grown with the
conveniences of email and texting,
though I know these are both very impersonal.
Part of my hope for this blog is to be able to share my life
on a regular basis with people I love since I do such a terrible job of calling!
10. I am truly grateful for my faith, my family, and my friends.
They keep me grounded and fulfilled.

A few of my favorite things:

Simplicity
Fresh, local food
Things that make me think
The promise of spring and the majesty of fall
 Handmade & DIY
Bird watching
 Dinner parties
Primitive antiques
(each scratch and ding add character, just like life)
Funky fabric
  Ice cream
   Fresh flowers
  A good cup of coffee

  1. Love your description of yourself. So that's what you're doing when you come over and start looking around! Ha! I do it too when things are badly arranged. You're awesome Jackie!
